Swamp Sweetbells
Eubotrys racemosa (Leucothoe racemosa)
Along with maleberry, this wetland shrub is a relative and look-alike of highbush blueberry. Just like maleberry, it does
not yield edible fruit. It lives up to its common name in spring, producing bell-shaped sweet-scented flowers in one-sided
racemes. Cooks Pond, Plymouth, June 7
New flower buds preformed for the next year and ripening fruits of the current year. Mary Dunn Pond, Hyannis, October 31
