Along with maleberry, this wetland shrub is a relative and look-alike of highbush blueberry. Just like maleberry, it does not yield edible fruit. It lives up to its common name in spring, producing bell-shaped sweet-scented flowers in one-sided racemes. Cooks Pond, Plymouth, June 7
