June 12,   Myles Standish State Forest, Plymouth
The clump with bluish foliage is a large clone of dwarf upland willow in a frost pocket. The willow copes with recurrent frost spills in spring, while taking advantage of an open habitat naturally free of trees, which is otherwise scarce in the park. As compared to scrub oaks around, the willow is not at all tall; in the frost pocket its tops have been additionally trimmed by the frost.
