Even though the bud shape is similar to
that in S. discolor , the presence of dense pubescence
different from that in S. discolor rules out a possibility of this sample
being S. discolor or its hybrid with either
S. atrocinerea or S. cinerea . Characters of these trees, particularly
the fluted bark (see next photo), don't fit with any known
S. discolor x S. humilis hybrids, either.
