The other alien, fully naturalized barberry. Differently from Japanese barberry, it has flowers in racemes of 10-25 flowers; the bark is of light grayish color; leaf margin bristle-toothed (entire in Japanese barberry). The whole plant is poisonous, except ripe berries, which become edible. Unripe barberry fruit (as well as the rest of the plant) contain powerful alkaloids.
