Staminate flowers (the plant is monoecious). Planted. A propagation from a plant in New York State, lineage dating back to
1943. This is an American species whose native range is in southeastern US; it occasionally escapes
from cultivation on the east coast, north of the native range. There is at least one record from New
Hampshire; however, so far there are none from Massachusetts.
