A rather large area of evergreen Pachysandra marks the beginning of a trail south of Ponkapoag Pond. Pachysandra belongs to the exotic family Buxaceae. Two non-native species are known from Massachusetts, one of them eastern North American, from farther south; the other one
(shown here) Asiatic. It usually stubbornly persists conquering more and more territory long after once inhabited lots are
abandoned.
