April 10,
Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain, Boston
Tree known only as fossil for a long time, then discovered living in China in 1943. Its status in China is "Endangered," as
it is known only as a handful of old trees in a single area. The Arnold Arboretum became instrumental
in promoting the tree all around the world, so that it is now
cultivated in many countries worldwide. This is the tree on the Arnold Arboretum logo.
