Atlantic white cedar is sensitive to changes in hydrology. A golf course construction adjacent to the Ponkapoag population might be blamed for its decline. Another white-cedar site in the Blue Hills, the Great Cedar Swamp, has been badly affected by the highway construction (Rt. 128), so that there are no great cedars anymore.
