Pennsylvania sedge at the perimeter of one of multiple ant hills
constructed by Formica exsectoides, Allegheny mound ant, a species of Atlantic United States, in
pitch pine/scrub oak/huckleberry forest. Even though these
ants are widely distributed, they are infrequent within their large range.
Pennsylvania sedge is a myrmecohorous plant (i.e., one whose seeds are carried
around by ants).
