A sedge of rocky slopes and dry habitats. Was found on an eastern slope of a small steep rocky hill in the forest with Maianthemum canadense (Canada mayflower), Goodyera pubescens (rattlesnake plantain), and Asplenium platyneuron (ebony spleenwort).
