Naturalized English oak is not so common in our area. We
have spotted it only a couple of times, always in coastal
situations. Its acorns are on long pedicels. White oak (
Q. alba ), which may be confused with English oak, has sessile
acorns. In Massachusetts, the only other species that has acorns on long pedicels
is swamp white oak ( Q. bicolor ).
