The fruiting chestnut is a twin-stemmed tree with the larger trunk about 18 cm in diameter at breast level. You can see fungus damage on it. The smaller trunk is already dead. Though the tree was found in the area where chestnuts are still abundant, there are no other trees in the immediate proximity. The isolated position has probably helped our chestnut to avoid the disease for a long time and thus reach the productive age.
