This branch with shiny leaves had fallen from the upper crown of a scarlet oak. Leaves on upper branches are generally more xeromorphic. Leaves from an upper branch of a red oak would be deeply cut as well. Fallen upper branches may be difficult to identify when both oaks occur together.
