July 29,
Blue Hills Reservation, Canton
An European orchid introduced to the vicinity of Rochester,
NY in 1888, now naturalized and widespread in northeastern
North America, reaching north to the very Newfoundland and
also on the Pacific Coast. All our finds belong to the most
widespread green-flowered form (forma
viridens A.Gray). This one was growing on a gravel
heap at a large trail
intersection near Ponkapoag Pond (photo 2005).
