At this early stage ripening pomes of purple chokeberry much resemble red chokeberry; however, they are ripening much earlier (red chokeberry often bears fruit as late as December). Some are already losing the orange tint, becoming patchy with purple (red chokeberry would remain bright orange even when ripe).
