The aggressive Japanese rose has not yet been black-listed in Massachusetts only due to lobbying of the commercial horticulture. This profitable, low-mainenance shrub has taken over the entire Cape Cod ocean front and the rest of the Massachusetts coastline, displacing native shrubs from the dunes and other coastal habitats.
