Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain, Boston
Smooth gray trunks of this Chinese tree are quite spectacular. Similarly to many other problematic weeds, tree-of-heaven was
introduced to North America as an ornamental plant. It spreads both by seed and root suckers, often forming dense single-species
thickets and eliminating all other plants. These trees are spontaneous--weedy in a minimally managed area within
the Arboretum territory.
