Acorn barnacle attaches
itself to substrate at its forehead, so
the part we observe is its rear part.
The volcano-shaped shell
consists of six plates. Mature barnacles
are surrounded by tiny juveniles. These
develop from actively swimming larvae,
which attach
themselves head-first prior to their
metamorphosis.
