When observed close up, leaves appear somewhat rugose (wrinkled). Branchlets purple, angled. The only ripe fruit appears distorted; surrounding ones have been abortive. (Male partner belonged to another species?) Fruits of Meserve hybrids are known to be able to persist through the winter.
