At around the center, there is a beautiful yellow- and black-patterned beetle, locust borer (Megacyllene robiniae, family
Cerambycidae) called so because its larvae feed on wood of live black locust. This is the latest long-horned
beetle to emerge in the season. From late August to late October, adults can be found feeding
on goldenrod flowers. They can be inconspicuous when resting on goldenrod flowers of the similar
shade of yellow. Wherever black locust is located close to flowering goldenrod, it makes sense to look for these colorful
beetles.
