Typically ovate or
oblong
leaves of this twining
vine may become toothed or even
lobed on vigorous shoots. This makes it
easy to recognize
the "dangerous weed," as it
was called in
Fernald's
Edition of Gray's Manual
back in the 1950s, when many other
notorious weeds were still
propagated
and planted near homes. Fernald's
final remark was
"Unfortunately,
naturalized from Asia."
