Carex stricta Lam.5 of 21
April 25, Allowance Brook floodplain, Sudbury
tussock sedge
This is probably the most conspicuous sedge of low forests,
swamps, and swales. It forms large, coarse tussocks called
"stools" by Gray. Usually there is not much vegetation around
these tussocks, so that the sedge alone takes the entire area.
