We found these oaks to be
not infrequent in the Stony Brook Reservation and elsewhere
around Boston. They look like Q. prinus with "abnormal," sparse and large,
deeply incised leaf denticles. This oak has only 6-8 lobes of nearly equal size
on each side of the leaf. Q. prinus would have some 10-16 rounded, more or
less pronounced denticles forming a crenate margin.
