Leaves are cuneate at base, on very short petioles (no more than 5 mm long). Lobes are more or less pronounced and may nearly
disappear, though each vein is ending with a tiny papilla on the leaf margin marking a lobe. This is not a bristle (bristles
are present only in the oaks belonging to another subgenus).
