Acorns of chestnut oak are very difficult to find. Sweet and most
tasty, even among better-tasting acorns of the white-oak group, they are favored
by squirrels, mice, and other animals. At the end of November, we had to dig
for these really hard! The cup of the acorn has a thin margin. Scales on the
cup are tightly appressed and almost entirely connate, hardly
distinguishable.
