Piptochaetium avenaceum (L.) Parodi1 of 24
May 28, Myles Standish State Forest, Carver
black oatgrass
Black oat grass is a rather rare inhabitant of relatively dry upland
rocky or sandy habitats. In pitch pine barrens of Myles Standish it occurs in
frost pockets (depressions free of trees, where cold air accumulates during
spring nights).
