Kidney-leaf buttercup has very variable leaves: from divided basal ones, whose leaflets can be either simple, reniform (kidney-shaped), like those in Asarum, or three-lobed, like leaves in Hepatica, to upper-stem sessile leaves divided into narrow segments. It is distributed all across Massachusetts, except the Cape, growing in damp woods and on clearings. Photo taken in western MA
