American elm on North Main Street (Rt. 28), opposite Catholic
church near Pond Street photographed in 2005 (taken down a couple years
later). More than a hundred years ago, prior to the onset of
Dutch elm disease, Randolph was famous for its arching elms
forming a continuous canopy all along North Main Street. The
elm alley used to be a tourist
attraction. This miserable tree, its arching branches gone,
apparently was the only remaining survivor.
