Urtica dioica ssp. dioica L.12 of 26
July 26, Arnold Arboretum, Jamaica Plain, Boston
stinging nettle
A bristle is a siliceous tube containing astringent juice.
The end of the tube forms a tiny head, which easily breaks
off at the touch, so the stinging acidic juice is released while the sharp
end of the broken tube pierces the skin.
